Is it safe to say that the Red Sox bandwagon got filled within the past 4 years?
Subway Super Bowl 2009 asked:
Ever since the curse was broken we have seen Red Sox fans come out from the 86-year rock they’ve been hiding under.
I don’t even recall the use of “Red Sox Nation” before the 2004 season.

yea i agreeeee
And you realised this just now? It took you this long to notice it?
YOU belong under that rock, my friend.

Since the Red Sox won the 2004 and 2007 World Series, their bandwagon is practically overflowing with “fans”!
Quite honestly, as a diehard Red Sox fan, I find it VERY annoying to see people who know nothing about baseball or the Red Sox claim that they’re real fans when we all know they’ll crawl back under that rock if the Red Sox don’t do well.
i’ve been a Sox fan for a long time but seeing these bandwagoners claiming they are true red sox fans annoys me. Basically all the bandwagoners jumped in the Red Sox wagon right after the 2004 WS and even more after the 2007 WS. so yes its safe to say that.
“Red Sox Nation” predates 2004 by some 5-10 years at least, but it discreetly stayed in the corners and niches. Since that first championship in the 21st century, it has emerged into widespread use — and its natural cousin, widespread abuse, as well.
Of course. As a Yankee fan, I know the Sox have many very knowledgeable fans. But they are lost in the sea of pink-hat-wearing wagon-hoppers who showed up because they like Ben Affleck or Drew Barrymore or some other ridiculous reason. Yankee Universe is similarly crowded with cling-ons. You just have to ignore them.
I love that the Red Sox won 2 World Series in the past 4 years. But the bandwagon fans irritate the crap out of me. When i go to Fenway it’s not just to go to Fenway I am actually there to watch the game (gasp). I think the crowds makeup consist of 50% baseball fans and 50% bandwagon and tourist fans. I wish these people would stay home. I use to be able to go to about 10 games a year. Now your lucky if you can get standing room only tickets. Give kudos’s to the Sox management they have done a great job marketing their product.
It has been filled because these types of fans seem to vacillate towards a winning team, and the Red Sox have been just that during the past four years.
Red Sox Nation is the invention of the Sox Fans @ ESPN. Gammons and his band of merry Sox fans are jealous that this is a Yankee Country. The Yanks are the # draw on the road and at home. Most of Red Sox Nation are front runners that know nothing about baseball.
The Sox won 3 titles in what 89 years big f’in deal.
Boston Still!
I agree totally
That is a very safe thing to say. With two World Series wins in 4 years, of course there is going to be an abundance of new “fans.”
It’s more a product of being a high-populated coast team than anything. I don’t recall the Marlins gaining a ton of fans after their multiple World Series victories…
I **** bandwagoners…pick a team and stick to it
as soon as they start to loose again, Red Sox Nation will be closed for business. Yankees fans are true!!!
Theyre all jumping on the bandwagon… probably because they **** the Yankees for no reason…
The Red Sox are becoming the Yankees (buying their own championships)
yes, the Sox do have some die-hard, life-long fans for sure, but this whole “national” fan base the ridiculous “Red Sox Nation” thing, that is all bandwagoners undoubdtedly
I agree completely. I’m not a Yankees fan but I agee. Red Sox fans love to whine about how much money the Yankees spend but Boston has the 2nd highest payroll in the MLB. The Yankees fans were the most obnoxious in here at one time but now that that Boston has won a couple of World Series the Sox fans have taken annoying to another level.
I’ll never liked the Red Sox. I **** Boston, I **** the people that live there, I **** the terrible New England accent, I **** Fenway, I **** the Red Sox, I **** Clam Chowder, I **** the Patriots, I **** Sam Adams Lager, I **** the Celtics, I **** the Bruins, and The Departed ******.
Maybe ESPN will realize one day the rest of the country does not eat, sleep and breath Red Sox/Yankees.
P.S. I’ve been to Fenway, it’s a dump. It’s time to tear down that fossil of a ballpark and build a new one.
