Will the Yankees burn out Chamberlain by the end of the year?

JoJo236 asked:

Even if they do make the playoffs, will Joba have anything left? He will undoubtedly throw more than he ever has before. Also could the Yankees hurt themselves more by doing this?

he was a starter his whole life just because he was in the bullpen for a month or two doesnt mean he cant be a starter anymore. plus his windup is pretty good so it wont make any arm injuries

I believe he will be burned out by the end of August. The yankees have a great young pitcher joba and they are ruining his career by making him start. If you remember a few years back Justin Verlander had a dead arm by the end of the year because even though he had always been a starter a major league season is long and he’ll end throwin over 125 innings

    GOod question.

I think there is a real possibility joba will burn-out.
Not only that, he will become more suseptable to injury with the huge increase in innings. The Yankees should have left him as a set-up man this season and then started him off in the rotation at the beginning of next year.

No, I think they will be sparing with his pitch count, and shut him down at the first sign of trouble….he is the franchise at this point…… but god, I am sick of hearing about him……

  5. ToolManJobber Says:

Yes. They will rely on him and Moose and the both of them will be overworked. There is no season for the Yankees this year. They will finish last or next to. The only hope they have is to increase their efforts in the development of some of the youngsters in the minors and hope for a better start next year. I predict it will be 3 years before they can field a contender.

    If they push him, yes.

  7. Gilberto c Says:

I really think so, due to the lack of pitchers

  8. New Yorker Says:

Yankees won’t burn out Joba by the end of the year. He has a innings limit for the year (140), so he will be fine when the playoffs come around.

He was originally a starting pitcher, but was placed in the bullpen last year to get his feet wet..when that turned out amazingly well, they questioned if he would even be good as a starter, if he would have what it takes. He is gradually building up his arm strength.. his pitch count has risen in each of his starts. In his most recent start, he threw 100 pitches against the Padres. He should have no problem going the year without blowing out his arm, and the Yankees need him in the rotation now especially because Chien-Ming Wang got hurt.

Eventually this guy will run out of gas, and someone in their front office will make the decison that he needs to return to the bullpen. Then, what does that do to his head, and what will he be like next year?
