Will the Yankees start out slow again this season?
Professor X asked:
They’ve had really slow starts for the past 3 seasons, digging deep holes for themselves, before making the playoffs with 2nd half surges. Will this year be the same?

I have a feeling the Yankees are going to bust out of the gate with a vengence this year.

I think they’ll be fine

I hope last year was the beginning of a downfall, give someone else a chance, perhaps teams that develop players instead of just getting high priced players.

Nope. The kids are energized, Damon and Abreu are in better shape than past springs, and The Captain is poised for an MVP season. Yanks lead the division wire-to-wire this year.
And to the person who says the Yanks don’t develop their own talent: Jeter, Posada, Rivera, Pettitte, Joba, Kennedy, Cano, Melky…

I belive your right,I’v been reading alot about spring training i read that Joe Torre never really cracked the whip with our players at sping training time.I heard he was so laid back with the players, but Girardi want’s EVERYONE there he wants everyone working out he doesn’t want to hear no excusses. And i read Abreu looks really great he’s working really hard,Jeter is working on being faster better speed.Joe Girardi is going to be the shot in the arm this team needed.

theyll have a slow start, but dont worry, this season will be different, cause theyll stay slow, the whole darn season
you wont have to worry about another playoff flop, cause theyll be home in october, the only flops theyll be making is flopping onto the couch to watch the Angels win the Series

I like your optimism. I think with Girardi in charge they will come out of the gates on fire. I really like the kids on our team. They hold so much promise. If they are what they say they are. We win it all this year.

They will go and do as much as their pitching allows. They have no real #1 ace and that will haunt them if they go anywhere. That being said, I think they’ll stumble again in the beginning, though I don’t know their schedule so if they play a bunch of cupcakes they could come out “on fire”. But I think they are relying too much on Joba, Kennedy & Hughes to right a ship in a tough city. They start out slow and the media will crucify them for not getting Santana.

Don´t hope so.

The worst manager you can have with young pitchers is Dusty Baker. Second worst is Joe G. He almost ruined some kids in Florida. That is a lot of the reason they got rid of him. That, and his bad attitude. But I expect the Yankees to finish behind Toronto this year. The Sox will take the division again. The Yankees only win 84 this year.

Girardi will certainly show much more emotion than Torre ever did. Now whether that translates to the field remains to be seen. I hope they come out ready to take no prisoners. Their offense needs to take hold on opening day. Don’t give the Sox a chance to run away and hide.
I have a feeling that the Yankees are going to have a great year. Hopefully many of their critics will be eating crow this coming October.

No one can really answer this question and this is what makes baseball so much fun, anything can happen. However, if we look at the entire 162 game schedule it would appear to me that the Yankees will be fine, providing their three young pitchers (Hughes, Kennedy, and Joba) can make a contribution.

I don’t think so. Girardi is insisting everyone come to training camp in shape especially Damon and Abreu. I think their lack of conditioning the past couple of years caused some early injuries like hamstring problems which ended up lingering at the start of the season. I think we’ll see a better conditioned team this year and as a result not the slow start that has occurred the past 2 years.

i hope the last couple season it was because of a lot of Injuries so lets Hope they can stay healthy

I just have a feeling that they’ll do really good this year.
