How to run an offline fantasy football draft?
poopmytushee asked:
I am running an offline fantasy football draft for the first year with some family and friends. After the draft I am going to enter the results on yahoo. I’m not asking if I should do it at a bar or if I should have activities or anything. I’m just wondering how I should keep track of who has been drafted and how I should let everyone know who is available. Like, should I have a cheatsheet and just cross people off?

Leave any extra details you may think will be helpful.
Thanks
well why dont you make you own custom league and send invitations to your family and friends and you can set up ther live draft but i think yahoo will keep track of who has who
I host an offline draft each season and it is pretty basic actually. I give each manager a cheatsheet and they are responsible for crossing a players name off of it once selected. Each manager should also write down each player they select on a sheet and give that sheet to you at the end of the draft so you can load the teams.
Of course you can also buy a draft board with the name tags of all the players in the NFL and post them as they are selected.
Ok, I have done this for three straight years,
If it is a group of 4-12 people, this is what I do:
Have the draft order all set up and type out all the postions needed for each team and Bench players of course. Then have the draft and when someone drafts a player, put the name of the player in the postion he plays.
Remember that the yahoo draft rounds (and most of the others) go like this:
RD 1’s first picker gets RD 2’s last pick, then get RD 3’s first pick and back and forth. Remember to have alot of cheat sheets avalible and you should try and make it where the players are all together at a table of some sorts.
PS- It would be easier if it were at a quite place.
Hope this helps and your fantasy league is as fun as mine have been.
I have done this for a number of years. You need to get a draft board with labels of each players name. When a player gets drafted the label gets put on the draft board in the appropriate teams column. I make sure I have help running the draft, I have one person who is the Vanna White who puts the names on the draft board. Another person is a score keeper who keeps track of each players picks.
Every player should have their own cheat sheet and cross players off as they are drafted.
Almost every year for the past 15 years, (before fantasy football was on the internet, my uncle used the newspaper every tuesday morning and tallied the scores and faxed everyont the results) my league has had an offline draft. As technology improved, the draft became easier. For last years most recent draft, one person used a laptop and an Excel spreadsheet. At the top each teams name is there across and on the sides each round. Then, when a player is selected, their name is placed in the proper round and team slot. Each team is basically responsible for keeping track of who was taken. Also, we usually have a draft at a conference center or a house. In past years, everyone rented condos at this golf course for a night and played golf and then did the draft. The following year we hung in NYC and saw a play and a preseason game and then did a draft on someones balcony that looked at the Statue of Liberty. It really made the experience better. Offline drafts make the league more user friendly and enjoyable. You should have a lot of fun and message me if you have any other questions.
Good luck!
duh, print off a list of players for every manager, get some beer or cokes and some snack food, or pizza and have a draft, if you really wanna impress them get a dry erase board and make it look professional.
