Red Sox fans: Do you think the Red Sox did the right thing in waiving the requirements to retire a number?

Red Sox lover asked:

On Friday night the Red Sox will be retiring number 6 in honor of Johnny Pesky. Do you think it is deserved?
Personally, I am so excited that they are doing that for Johnny. He has been Mr Red Sox for so long and it is fitting that they are honoring him in this way. He will be 89 years old on Saturday and I am thrilled for him!

That’s cool. That means I’ll be there for that occasion. :) Congrats to him.

Dodger fan here.

Obviously the guy is special to the Red Sox organization. If they waived a rule for him….then he must be well deserved.

If Sox fans agree, then it should be so!

Congrats Johnny.

You are right. See, this is why I get ticked off when a guy who deserves to get into the Hall of Fame doesn’t because he doesn’t have glamorous numbers. Pesky is a great representative of the Red Sox and of baseball. ***** numbers. Greatness has to do with more than piling up big numbers. He deserves it. If people ask 50 years from now what he did to deserve it, people can just say, “Well, you had to be there.”
