Because one of my favorite palyers presently does not appear among the top batters in the NL, even though he has a batting average of about .340-.350. I realize that he does not appear among the top batters in the league because he lost a bunch of games early in the season due to an injury and thus does not have enough at-bats this season. But he is now off of the DL and playing almost every day. That’s why I ask how many at-bats does a baseball player need to qualify for the batting crown.
